Commercial Renovations

Built in 1916, the small commercial building at 612 N. 5th had served the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood for decades as a corner grocery store and ice cream parlor. But with the declines in population in the 1970’s and the changes toward big-box grocery shopping patterns, the little building had sat vacant for nearly 30 years.

But now a new chapter in the little building’s history is being written. In 2008 City Vision purchased the building and after a complete renovation was able to attract Wheat State Pizza, a regional pizza franchise, to open their newest store. With its high ceilings and old fashioned wood floors, the shop retains its quaint, early 20th century character and is quickly becoming a favorite place to hang out or to order take out for those casual business lunch meetings for downtown employers.

“This is just the kind of neighborhood business that is a perfect fit with our new housing development efforts” reported John Harvey, President of City Vision. “The new residents moving into our newly developed homes are excited to find out there is a great pizza place just down the street. We hope we can bring more of this kind of local business to the neighborhood.”
