John HarveyPresident and Executive Director John Harvey believes that nails and 2 x 4s are just the start of urban rehabilitation. Equipping people to own property and to organize and build a community is just as critical, he believes. An ordained minister and former director of a citywide program for elderly, low-income, and handicapped residents in Topeka, Kansas, Harvey is an entrepreneurial businessperson who understands the personal and financial obstacles that often prevent urban residents from achieving their dream of living in healthy, affordable, and stable neighborhoods. His passion for this cause was so great that he resigned his position as pastor of Hillview Church of God in 1994 to work full time at City Vision. “In the past decade, our team, with the cooperation of residents, and the support of many partners, has dramatically changed the landscape of several urban neighborhoods,” Harvey says. “Our work gives hope to hard working people who want to improve their lives.” Harvey earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Kansas. |
